Naver Webtoon reported that its works won three out of five awards in the comics category at the ‘2022 Korea Content Awards’ awards ceremony held at COEX. In particular, Naver Webtoon’s works have achieved a record of winning the Presidential Award, the grand prize, consecutively from 2016 to this year.

The Korea Content Awards, which celebrated its 14th anniversary this year, is the most prestigious content awards ceremony in Korea hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency. Awards are given to workers and works that have contributed to shining the Republic of Korea’s content industry and providing emotion and joy to the people.

<Antique Shop of the Future (Gua Jin)>, which received the Presidential Award in the comics category, <No Home (Wanan)> and <Return of the Volcano (LICO)>, which received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award, are all serialized on Naver Webtoon. am. In the animation category, the animation of the same name, based on the Naver webtoon <My Daughter Who Became a Zombie (Lee Yun-chang)>, received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award, proving its workability and value as an original IP.

Naver Webtoon’s works stand out at comic award ceremonies held overseas, strengthening its position as the world’s No. 1 story tech platform.

The original English webtoon discovered by Naver Webtoon, <Lore Olympus (Rachel Smythe)>, won 3 awards at major American comic award ceremonies this year, including the ▲Will Eisner Awards, ▲Harvey Awards, and ▲Ringo Awards. He set a record of winning the crown.

<Awl (Choi Gyu-seok)>, which was serialized on Naver Webtoon from December 2013 to August 2017, was the first original webtoon book to be nominated in the official competition category at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in France, the largest comics festival in Europe.

The official competition work of the Angoulême International Comics Festival only accounts for approximately 1% of the comics officially published in France in the previous year, and the nomination itself is considered a great honor. In particular, the fact that a book based on a webtoon was nominated for the first time in France, where comics are considered the ninth art, proves the changed status of webtoons in the European market.

46 works were selected as official competitors for the 50th Angoulême International Comics Festival, and the final winner will be announced on January 28th next year, when the event is held.

Lee Jeong-geun, Naver Webtoon’s Korean webtoon leader, said, “I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to all the award-winning authors.” He added, “We will continue to discover diverse new works with popularity and artistic quality to become the story tech platform that creators and users around the world visit first.” “I will try my best,” he said.
