ESG management launched by NCSoft… Forming unique discourses such as ‘AI ethics’
ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management is also becoming a hot topic in the gaming industry. As several game companies, led by NCSoft, have expressed their intention to participate in ESG management, a new wind is blowing in the game industry, which is entering the ’20 trillion era’.
NC established the NC Cultural Foundation in 2012 and has been carrying out social contribution activities, and has now promoted the establishment of a multifaceted social responsibility through the establishment of the ESG Management Committee. NCSoft’s core areas to fuel sustainable growth engines are ‘Consideration of future generations’, ‘Support for the socially underprivileged’, ‘Protection of the environmental ecosystem’, and ‘Leadership and ethics in the AI (artificial intelligence) era.’ ‘, etc. were pointed out.
What stands out among these is AI ethics. NC recently released the ‘AI Framework’ series, designed to improve leadership and ethics in the AI era, through its official YouTube and blog, attracting attention both inside and outside the industry. The AI Framework series is a year-round project for ‘Leadership and Ethics in the AI Era,’ one of NC’s core ESG management areas. New perspectives and directions for viewing AI technology are being discussed through discussions with world-renowned scholars such as Harvard University, Stanford University, and MIT. We planned talks with leading scholars in various fields, including Professor Fei-Fei Lee of Stanford University, who invented ‘ImageNet’, and Professor Rob Risch, professor of political science and director of the Stanford Center for Social Ethics.
In addition, major domestic game companies such as Netmarble and Nexon are preparing to establish an ESG committee in the second half of the year and begin active activities in earnest.
