Through this agreement, Sogang University and Smilegate will cooperate with each other on △ fostering AI talent △ co-designing AI cutting-edge department curriculum and supporting SW industry-academia cooperation △ research to strengthen mid- to long-term AI research capabilities and secure core technologies △ joint establishment of Smilegate Research Center, etc. Is expected. To this end, starting in March 2022, Sogang University will establish a new ‘Smilegate Digital Human & Entertainment’ track within the AI Graduate School’s Department of Artificial Intelligence, and plans to select the first new students in October. Sogang University and Smilegate select 20 master’s students each year through joint interviews, and each successful student is provided with a scholarship worth approximately 18 million won per year. In addition, Smilegate plans to jointly participate with Sogang University in designing curriculum for major subjects such as AI basic subjects and support a cloud computing environment for AI and SW practice. In addition, the ‘Smilegate Digital Human Research Center’ will be jointly established to strengthen mid- to long-term AI research capabilities and secure core technologies. The research center is comprised of Smilegate researchers and Sogang University faculty and graduate students, and will collaborate to carry out AI industry-academia cooperation projects. To this end, Smilegate supports project research expenses and center operating expenses according to the discovery of industry-academia collaborative research projects, and Sogang University provides dedicated research center space for graduate students. Sogang University President Jonghyuk Shim said, “Sogang University is attempting various changes to realize AI-based liberal arts and science convergence education, establishment of a metaverse system, and support for start-ups. “We express our deep gratitude to Smilegate for further supporting these efforts, and we will continue to do our best to nurture talent that will lead the AI era,” he said at the signing ceremony.
