Nurion Co., Ltd. (CEO Jintak Oh) participated in the ‘6 International Light Convergence O21O Expo (LED&OLED EXPO)’ held at Kintex, Goyang for three days from June 23 (Wed) to 3 (Fri).
Nurion is a representative LED-related company in Korea that has been steadily growing since starting with the LED module business in 2005.
As it started as a small LED module business and has grown into a huge LED lighting company, it is now conducting various businesses based on IoT (Internet of Things) and ICT (Information Communication Technology) as well as simple LED lighting. In particular, at this 2023 International Light Convergence O2O Expo, smart street light products, an important urban infrastructure for smart cities, were introduced.
A smart street light is a solution that creates and controls a wireless self-network, adding ICT functions to LED lighting. Through this, the street light can respond to various conditions by itself without separate manipulation.
Nurion’s smart street lights can control the operation of street lights according to the time of day and the traffic volume on the road. Basically, you can specify the time the streetlights should be on, and in addition, you can control the operation yourself by detecting vehicles and traffic.
Here, dimming control technology can be applied to adjust the brightness of streetlights. In places such as tunnels, it is possible to minimize the driver’s visual impairment by adjusting the intensity of illumination at the entrance and exit to be similar to the intensity of illumination outside the tunnel, and to minimize electricity consumption by adjusting the brightness of streetlights in comparison with the ambient illumination according to the time of day.
Nurion’s streetlights even applied color temperature control technology to these functions. Color temperature is the color of the light source expressed as a number according to the absolute temperature, and is expressed as a K (Kelvin) value.
Daytime sunlight, commonly referred to as daylight, is about 5,200 to 5,600K, and yellow lighting used in cafes is about 3,200K. And the blue sky we face on a clear day is over 10,000K. In other words, a low number gives a warm color, and a high number gives a bluish color.
Nurion’s smart street lights check the visibility system and adjust the color temperature of the street lights. In foggy areas, the color temperature is low, yellow. According to several papers and various research results, it is known that warm color has better visibility than blue light.
These technologies of Nurion can be applied not only to roads, but also to factories and living sites. It is expected that it will be used in various fields in the future as it can be turned on when there is a person and turned off when no one is present.
Meanwhile, this International Optical Convergence O21O Expo, which marks its 2st anniversary this year, consists of the △LIGHTING Exhibition Hall, △Photonics+LASER Exhibition Hall, △LED & OLED Materials Exhibition Hall, △Optical Convergence New Technology Exhibition Hall, △Display & Signage Exhibition Hall, and △LIGHT & LIFE Special Exhibition Hall. In addition, the ‘Optical Convergence Industry Forum 2023’ was held simultaneously under the theme ‘Seeing the future with light’, providing an opportunity to explore the current status and development direction of the mining industry.
