애스톤사이언스는 5월 10일(수) 개막해 12일(금)까지 3일간 서울 코엑스(COEX)에서 개최되는 ‘BIO KOREA 2023(바이오 코리아 2023)’에 참가해 암치료용 백신 면역항암제를 소개했다.
애스톤사이언스는 의료 혁신을 통해 수많은 환자들의 삶을 연장하면서, 그 질을 향상시키고자 다국적 제약회사 출신들이 설립한 임상 단계(Clinical stage) 바이오 제약회사이다. 궁극적인 암 면역치료법 중에 하나인 암치료백신, 암 세포의 단백질 대사를 조절하는 항암제, 중추신경계, 노인성 질환 약물 등 다양한 약물의 기초 연구와 임상 개발 및 상용화에 초점을 맞추고 있다.
개인 맞춤형 암백신으로 플라스미드 DNA 기반 HER2 저발현 유방암 치료용 백신 ‘AST-301’ 임상 2상을 미국, 호주, 대만 등 글로벌에서 진행 중이다. 애스톤사이언스는 AST-301 관련 지난 임상 1상에서 약 10년 이상의 장기 안전성과 면역원성을 확보했다.
이번 전시에 소개된 암치료용 백신 면역항암제에 대해 관계자는 “매우 안전하며 백신타입으로 3회에서 6회까지만 맞으면 치료가 끝나는 시스템이다.”라고 설명했다.
