AM System Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Young-ik) announced that it will participate in the ‘Drone Show Korea 2’ held at BEXCO, Busan from February 23rd (Thursday) to 25th (Saturday).

AM System is a company that conducts research and development on aircraft, satellite and transportation device design engineering, drone research and development, and composite material application technology. In the engineering field, he participated in the KF-21, low observable unmanned aerial vehicle, and lunar exploration orbiter project, and in the drone and unmanned aerial vehicle field, starting with the development of the multi-purpose agricultural drone (Nashu), he participated in a number of government projects such as an all-wing tiltrotor unmanned aerial vehicle and a full tilting vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicle. We have carried out R&D projects. We aim to become a top-level aircraft engineering company based on the acquisition of eight intellectual property rights and unique technological capabilities.

This exhibition will showcase two major product lines: agricultural drones and vertical takeoff and landing drones. The feature of the agricultural drone is the tank module that applies the hinge swing type, a patent obtained from AM System. The flight stability of the aircraft was improved by minimizing the sloshing phenomenon where the contents of the tank shake during drone operation. In addition, the liquid module and granular module can be easily replaced and operated as a single drone.

Regarding this, an AM System official said, “At first, the tank was fixed, but it was confirmed that the contents of the translucent tank were moving around during operation. “It was determined that the change in the center of gravity due to this sloshing phenomenon affects the center of gravity of the aircraft during drone operation, and we sought to increase flight safety by minimizing this,” he explained.

The self-developed multi-purpose agricultural drone (NASHU 102) has obtained certification from the Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency and is registered as a government-supported loan model. In this regard, its technological prowess was recognized by registering three patents.

The vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicle to be presented together is a flying wing type aircraft without tail wings and a fully tilting aircraft with the entire rotor tilting. The company explains that the Tilt_Rotor method, rather than the Lift&Cruise method commonly used in VTOL aircraft, is advantageous for long-distance and high-speed flights. The ability to perform a variety of tasks by assigning multiple missions was also cited as an advantage.

An official said, “In the case of the vertical takeoff and landing drone developed last year, I believe that it has overcome the limitations of the existing multicopter-type drones, suggesting the possibility of long-distance flight and achieving the result of accumulating high-level technology. In relation to this, two patent registrations and one utility model application have been completed, and the developed aircraft is expected to be of great use for military, civilian, and industrial purposes.”

The background to participating in the exhibition was also revealed. An official said, “Our company is focusing on research and development of various drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, starting with the development of multipurpose agricultural drones in 2016. Through this exhibition, we plan to actively promote the technological differentiation and usefulness of the vertical takeoff and landing drone and multipurpose agricultural drone developed by our company. In addition, we plan to listen to field reactions to our developed products, identify market needs, and actively reflect them in the aircraft to commercialize them,” he said. “On the other hand, by understanding domestic and overseas drone and unmanned aerial vehicle market trends, we predict potential demand and based on this, we plan to develop new products.” “I would like to receive help in getting ideas for research and development and developing insight,” he added.

He continued, “The product our company is planning for the future is a vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicle that can be operated within the city. “Based on the technology and know-how accumulated from previous development, we aim to develop a product that can be safely operated in the city by fusing the airframe shape and structure optimized for urban operation and control such as collision avoidance,” he said. “After development is completed, It is expected to be used for mid- to long-distance courier logistics delivery business within the city, and is expected to have high utility value in various industrial fields. “We also plan to work on commercializing military drones,” he said of his business plan.
