[Las Vegas (USA) = AVING News] Mobilint, Inc. (CEO Shin Dong-ju) held a four-day event in Las Vegas, USA from January 2023 (Thursday) to January 1 (Sunday, local time), 5. Participated in the Eureka Park K-STARTUP Integrated Hall, the startup zone of ‘CES 8’.
Mobilint is an AI semiconductor startup established in 2019 to create a more convenient and safer world by realizing the infinite potential of artificial intelligence technology. The team is comprised of high-level experts in the fields of artificial intelligence, software, and semiconductor design, including CEO Dong-ju Shin, who has researched AI semiconductors for deep learning at KAIST for a long time and developed edge ASIC chips for artificial intelligence. It achieved the highest level of performance in Korea in the AI semiconductor benchmark test MLPerf and was recognized for its technology by being listed as an MLPerf Founding Member. To date, we are accelerating technology development by attracting approximately 1 billion won in private investment and 100 billion won in government-supported research and development funds.
We participated in this exhibition to announce the launch of our first ASIC product, Aries. Aries is a powerful and efficient product that can replace GPUs, and Mobilint explained that companies that supply computer vision-related products or services can implement more powerful and highly marketable products through Aries. In addition, Aries is a high-performance, high-efficiency chip for edge computing and will be best used in smart factories and smart cities that require high levels of performance, and is also suitable for industries where high-performance computer vision technology is applied. .

A Mobilint official said, “We have developed Aries, an AI semiconductor for edge computing. Aries has an optimized structure for deep learning algorithm model calculations, so its calculation performance is very excellent. Aries’ hardware architecture is designed for deep learning algorithm calculations and has high effectiveness and data reuse, enabling high performance even with low power. “Aries’ maximum performance of 80 TOPS is the highest among edge-based processors,” he said. “In addition, it supports a user-friendly ‘Software Development Kit’ (SDK), so even first-time customers can use it easily. “Aries is ready to give customers amazing experiences,” he emphasized.
The development background was also revealed. An official said, “As AI technology has developed, more convenient and efficient products and services have emerged like mushrooms, but the amount of data that needs to be processed has also increased explosively, leading to the need for AI-specific hardware with powerful performance. “Currently, the GPU solution, which is most commonly used for AI algorithm model data processing, falls short of market demands in various aspects such as performance, power efficiency, size, heat generation, and price, resulting in many limitations in implementing AI applications,” he explained.
He continued, “The neural network processing unit (NPU) is hardware optimized for AI algorithm model acceleration, and although the technology is not yet highly mature, it already has outstanding potential to surpass GPU performance under certain conditions. Mobilint believed that NPU would grow rapidly, replacing GPU in the AI field, and was confident that it was not that distant future. In addition, we decided that now was the right time as there is no product currently dominating the global NPU market and opportunities are open to everyone, and we were confident in our advanced technology through long-term research, so we decided to take on the challenge of developing NPU ourselves.”
Currently, Mobilint is raising sales through PoC through partnerships with domestic companies in various fields such as smart factories, smart cities, and self-driving cars. Sales are expected to increase explosively in 2024, when mass production begins in earnest.

In the future, Mobilint also announced plans to apply Aries to computer vision products/services that require high performance, such as smart factories and smart cities. An official said, “We will conduct PoC focusing on solutions with high marketability, but we will also prepare for the future by partnering with companies in fields with high potential, such as autonomous vehicles.” He added, “Through PoC, Mobilint will provide information on customer domains. We plan to understand this, find the optimal solution to solve problems that occur in the field, and apply it to our hardware design. In addition, we want to improve the completeness of our various support software and improve user convenience,” he announced his business plan.
He continued, “We hope that this CES 2023 will be an opportunity for the world to experience our efficient solutions.”
Meanwhile, ‘CES’, the world’s largest IT exhibition, is an exhibition where you can understand the trends of the global home appliance industry at a glance. Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it is held every January in Las Vegas, USA. AVING News, which has covered CES for 1 consecutive years, has reported CES news around the world every year since 17, and has been selected as the ‘BEST OF CES’, which selects the best innovative products and technologies, and the ‘BEST OF’, which selects domestic innovative companies. ‘MADE IN KOREA’ was held. In addition, CES on-site issues were vividly conveyed through ‘AVING LIVE’.
The K-STARTUP Integrated Pavilion is jointly participated by the Korea Start-up Agency, Seoul Business Agency, and Seoul Digital Foundation, and 51 domestic innovative companies participated to enter the U.S. market and discover global partners. In addition, CES 2023 college student supporters selected from each university (Kyunghee University, Kookmin University, Sogang University, and Chung-Ang University) were matched considering majors and industrial fields of participating companies.
