AICU (Co-CEOs Sungmoon Jeong and Eun-Ah Hwang) participated in the Future Innovation Tech Expo 2024 (FIX 2024), held at EXCO from October 23 to 26.

AICU was founded to transform healthcare accessibility. It leverages deep learning AI technology to extract medically meaningful data from photos and videos captured by patients themselves. The company aims to offer cost-effective, accurate health monitoring, diagnosis, and prediction without relying solely on traditional medical data, which often requires significant time, cost, and effort to collect in clinical settings.

Under the slogan “Innovative healthcare services at your fingertips, anytime, anywhere,” AICU seeks to improve access to healthcare for patients managing chronic conditions. By enabling routine monitoring at home, the company aims to reduce the inconvenience of hospital visits while cutting household healthcare costs.

The Fecal Scanner, AICU’s flagship product showcased at FIX 2024, uses smartphone cameras and deep learning AI to analyze stool images and assess the severity of ulcerative colitis in real-time. It revolutionizes traditional testing methods by addressing cost and complexity, enabling early screening and efficient disease management.

The AI-based image analysis technology allows the Fecal Scanner to quickly and accurately diagnose inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) from stool images taken with a smartphone. The solution’s key advantage is the convenience of obtaining precise results anywhere and anytime.

AICU validated the clinical efficacy of the Fecal Scanner by comparing it to fecal calprotectin tests, which were reimbursed under Korea’s national health insurance. The company collected 3,738 stool images from 510 patients undergoing colonoscopies at five domestic university hospitals. “The Fecal Scanner demonstrated an accuracy of 93%, surpassing the 85% accuracy of fecal calprotectin tests in assessing endoscopic activity of ulcerative colitis,” the company reported. The solution received the Best Oral Presentation Award at IMKASID 2022 and was recognized for its excellence at ECCO 2023.
