Safeway Inc. plans to unveil its innovative AI-based autonomous stroller, ‘e-Restte,’ at CES 2025, aiming for the CES Innovation Award. The most notable feature of ‘e-Restte’ is its addition of an “AI-based hands-free autonomous driving function” that surpasses traditional motorization and automatically follows the user.

This stroller uses LiDAR sensors to track the user in real time and automatically adjusts its direction. If the user moves more than 10 feet away from the stroller or if the stroller loses track of the user, it emits a warning sound and automatically activates the brakes to ensure safety. Moreover, it is equipped with cutting-edge BLDC motors and regenerative braking battery technology for efficient and stable driving.

The development of ‘e-Restte’ started with the slogan “From pushing a stroller to being pulled by one.” This stroller, a culmination of Safeway’s proprietary technology, is expected to set a new paradigm in the baby wagon and stroller market.

Safeway’s CEO, Dongho Kim, after building a career as an industrial robot expert at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, ventured into entrepreneurship to develop robots that can be practically used in everyday life. CEO Kim stated, “e-Restte is not merely a motorized stroller but a next-generation infant mobility that demonstrates the potential of everyday mobility combined with AI and robotics. By challenging for an innovation award at CES 2025 and participating in the CES 2025 exhibition, we plan to lay the groundwork for entering the global market.”

The future of strollers is evolving from merely a means of transporting infants to a mobility solution that provides a more convenient and safer living environment for both parents and children. Positioned at the forefront of this new trend, ‘e-Restte,’ combining AI and robotics, is expected to set new standards in the global infant product market if it wins an innovation award at CES 2025.
