The number of writers registered on Kakao’s content publishing platform Brunch has exceeded 50,000. As the works presented at Brunch continued to be published, out of the 50,000 Brunch authors, about 2,900 authors have published books, and the number of published books amounts to about 4,600.
Brunch is a content publishing platform launched by Kakao in June 2015 with the concept of ‘a space where writing becomes work.’ It is characterized by the publication of high-quality content by carefully selected Brunch writers who have passed a separate author approval system.
The books presented through the brunch have become bestsellers and are being evaluated as having pioneered a new market for publishing. ‘Welcome, This is Hunam-dong Bookstore’ was published as an e-book, ranked first in Millie’s Library comprehensive chart, and was subsequently published as a paper book, and ‘The Sadness of Young ADHD’ was published in June 2021, reaching 7 broke through the chain.
Kakao explained that Brunch was able to establish itself as a gateway for new writers because of the ongoing ‘Brunch Book Publishing Project.’ Kakao has been supporting brunch writers who dream of publishing by holding the ‘Brunch Book Publishing Project’ every year since 2015.
From 1 to 9 times so far, publishers have participated as judges every year to discover 10 grand prize works among Brunch Book entries and sign publishing contracts. Kakao is providing marketing support benefits, such as cash prizes and special exhibitions after publication, to the grand prize winners. The cumulative number of entries for the project is 32,704, with 279 winners.
Additionally, since last year, we have been working with several partners, including Millie’s Study and Willa, to expand Brunch Book’s secondary work format into various content areas. We held the Brunch Book e-book publishing project with Millie’s Study, and the Brunch Book audiobook publishing project with Willa.
Taling and Wadiz participated in the special award category in the 8th and 9th Brunch Book Publishing Project. Taling produced three works as VOD, and Wadiz plans to produce and open content based on award-winning works through funding in March.
Brunch is collaborating with ‘Class 101’ to conduct applications for the ‘Brunch Book AI Class Project’. This is an online class production event based on the content of the award-winning work, and instead of the author appearing, the content will be produced using virtual creators.
Oh Seong-jin, head of Kakao Brunch, said, “We want to connect brunch books containing great stories of ordinary people to more readers,” and added, “We plan to support writers who put their own thoughts and perspectives into writing so that they can get various opportunities at brunch. “He said.
