[Pangyo Tech] Naver-Kakao, breaking down the boundaries of space… New work system begins in earnest

Naver and Kakao will switch to a full-fledged remote work (work from home) system starting on the 4th. If working from home was a temporary measure due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) situation, this means that it will now be implemented as an official system.

According to the industry on the 2nd, Naver executives and employees are using ‘Connected Work’, which allows them to choose one of two work types: working entirely from home (Type R) for 5 days a week starting from the 4th, or commuting to the office more than 3 days a week (Type O). ‘Remote work’ system is implemented.

According to Naver, 55% of the total 4,000 employees chose Type R work. They can work from anywhere they want, such as their own home, a cafe, or a villa. You can even work in month-long lodgings at resorts.

The remaining 45% of employees who chose O-type work can come to work at least three times a week on any day of the week and at any time they want, starting from the 4th. Type O employees are given fixed seats in the office. Additionally, both lunch and dinner are provided through the on-site cafeteria.

Naver employees can change their work patterns once every six months, taking into account personal work situations and department placement.

Kakao will also switch to a full-fledged new work system, full-time working from home, starting on the 4th. Kakao has also been implementing a work-from-home system for the past two years since COVID-19, so employees will work without much difference from before.

However, according to the guidelines, intensive working hours are applied from 2 PM to 5 PM. In addition, regular voice connections and face-to-face meetings once a week are recommended with department members.

Kakao is moving its headquarters to introduce a new work system. Starting today, Kakao left Sampyeong-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si and leased Alphadom City, located in Baekhyeon-dong, Bundang-gu, for a long term of 10 years.

Although the work-from-home system has been completely converted, employees can work from the office if they wish. Fixed spaces were divided for each department, and common seating was also provided. Once the cafeteria is completed for employees commuting to the headquarters, meals will be provided.

Starting from the 8th, Kakao will only work 4 days a week every other week. He introduces the ‘Nolgeum’ system of resting on Fridays every other week.
