    [Pangyo Game & Contents] Naver Webtoon signs MOU with Literature Translation Institute of Korea

    Naver Webtoon has signed a business agreement with the Literature Translation Institute of Korea and will begin training professional translators and establishing a translation system.

    The business agreement is part of a career development program that supports graduates of the Translation Academy affiliated with the Literature Translation Institute of Korea to grow and settle down as professional translators.

    During the localization stage of webtoons and web novels, Naver Webtoon plans to provide on-site training opportunities for Literature Translation Institute of Korea Academy graduates to participate in actual translation and to reflect translations that take into account the culture and sensibilities of local readers. “The history of the Korean Wave will soon become the history of translation,” said Kwak Hyo-hwan, director of the Literature Translation Institute of Korea. “We want to grow into a key institution in the translation of Korean art and culture content along with Naver Webtoon, which plays a leading role in the overseas expansion of Korean webtoons and web novels.” The purpose of the MOU was announced.

    Shin-ok Lee, Naver Webtoon’s U.S. content general leader, said, “Translation is a very specialized and creative field that starts with language skills and requires knowledge to understand the work and detailed expression skills comparable to creative writing.” He added, “Through this agreement, we will discover and train competent translators to help Korea “We plan to strive to strengthen the global competitiveness of webtoons and web novels.”
