Kakao Entertainment’s music platform Melon is launching the ‘Dolby Atmos Music’ service from Dolby Laboratories, a leading global video and audio entertainment company.

‘Dolby Atmos Music’ provides an innovative spatial sound experience as if music envelops the entire body through Dolby Atmos technology that realizes a multidimensional musical panorama. Going beyond the limitations of sounds that previously only came from the left and right channels, each sound can be perfectly arranged, from the melody of an instrument swimming in space, the singer’s fine breathing, and the waves of a rich melody, allowing it to be freely realized in all directions, from front to back, left and right, and even overhead. there is. Through this, music is delivered more clearly and deeply than any other technology, providing complete immersion and special emotion to listeners.

Melon supports ‘Dolby Atmos Music’ through the latest versions of both Android and iOS apps. Any paid Melon member can use ‘Dolby Atmos Music’ through all existing streaming passes without spending additional money.

However, the device running the app must be a model that supports ‘Dolby Atmos Music’. Apple’s iOS smartphones support ‘Dolby Atmos Music’ starting with the iPhone 11 model released in the second half of 2019, and Android’s Samsung Galaxy supports ‘Dolby Atmos Music’ starting with the S8 model released in March 2017.

For music sources that support ‘Dolby Atmos Music’, the ‘Dolby Atmos’ mark is displayed on the song details page. In addition, a dedicated Dolby Atmos theater has been opened and can be accessed through the ‘Service Shortcut’ that appears when you press the magnifying glass-shaped ‘Exploration tailored to you’ tab in the Melon app. Playlists are provided through the Dolby Atmos theater and the ‘Dolby Atmos’ account of the human curation service ‘Melon DJ’, so you can easily enjoy the music.

Meanwhile, Melon has been providing ultra-high-quality FLAC (Free lossless audio codec) music on mobile devices for the first time in Korea since 2013. The level of listening to digital music has been raised by providing CD-level (FLAC 16-bit) and mastering-level (FLAC 24-bit) lossless sound sources that are produced without loss of the original sound.

Song Yoo-kyung, head of Kakao Entertainment’s Melon Strategy Group, said, “We expect that the artist’s musical message will be more perfectly delivered to fans through Melon’s ‘Dolby Atmos Music’ service,” adding, “We will continue to maintain the value of music as the No. 1 music platform.” “We will continue our efforts to elevate our status.”

Lee Sang-ho, head of business at Dolby Laboratories Korea, said, “I think it is very meaningful to be able to expand the premium entertainment experience provided by Dolby Atmos Music to many customers together with Melon, Korea’s No. 1 music platform.” He added, “Customers will continue to experience “We plan to continue collaborating so that people can enjoy the differentiated spatial sound and immersive experience of Dolby Atmos.”
