Kakao Enterprise announced that it once again ranked first in the global top-tier AI facial recognition technology competition. In the 1:1 verification ‘kiosk’ category of the ‘Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT)’ hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the world It’s been just one month since it took first place.
The FRVT 1:N Investigation Kiosk category, in which Kakao Enterprise once again took first place, extracts a candidate group of people similar to one image taken at the kiosk from 1.6 million VISA photos. FRVT 1:N is more difficult than FRVT 1:1, which compares a person’s face and image data one-to-one to determine whether there is a match, so top companies in the global AI industry mainly participate. Following FRVT 1:1, Kakao Enterprise achieved global first place in 1:N, strengthening its position as a global leader in the AI facial recognition field.
Including the kiosk category of the survey item that took first place, it was in the top 5 in four categories, including ▲border (3rd place) ▲90 degree side (4th place) ▲kiosk (4th place) in the identification category. Including the category that ranked in the top 5, there were as many as 7 categories (▲ 10-year-old image of an immigration checkpoint in the survey item (8th place) ▲ Immigration checkpoint in the identification item (7th place) ▲ 90-degree side view in the identification item (6th place) )) was listed in the top 10.
Among these, the immigration inspection section of the survey item, which ranked 3rd, showed an error rate of only 0.0001 compared to the first place company, and it also ranked 6th in the 90-degree side section of the identification item, which is considered one of the most difficult parts in the entire sector, representing Korea. It has proven its potential as an AI technology company.
The reason why Kakao Enterprise was able to take first place in competitions between famous AI companies from around the world is that it adopted a different method from ordinary data model learning to further improve the model’s performance. Kakao Enterprise created a model larger than the limited model required in the competition and trained it so that the small model could process data more quickly while maintaining the performance of the large model. Kakao Enterprise plans to further advance AI facial recognition technology based on its GPU infrastructure and apply it to various services such as facial recognition entry/exit system, AI CCTV, and intelligent control.
Baek Sang-yeop, CEO of Kakao Enterprise, said, “With the news of consecutive first place rankings, I am glad that Kakao Enterprise AI continues to play an important role in proving Korea’s AI technology.” He added, “Kakao Enterprise is committed to improving national technological competitiveness through AI technology and services.” We are making great efforts to drive the development of Korea’s digital industry. “Through a series of good news, we expect that Kakao Enterprise’s global AI technology leadership will be connected to actual services and further accelerate the creation of a better world,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kakao Enterprise is taking the lead in promoting Korea’s global AI technology not only in the AI face recognition field but also in the voice processing and natural language processing fields by publishing 17 papers at global top-tier AI conferences in the first half of last year. In particular, a total of four research results will be presented at INTERSPEECH, the world’s largest academic conference in the speech processing field, to be held in Songdo, Incheon in September. Among these, a methodology that shortens the learning process to generate natural, high-quality voices that are difficult to distinguish from real people is receiving great expectations from the industry.
