Nota, an edge AI technology company, and Daejeon Metropolitan City were selected as the final operators of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘2022 Smart City Company-led Innovative Technology Discovery Project’. Through this project, Nota will install AI Safe Crossing in Daejeon Metropolitan City to create an AI-based safe pedestrian environment.
The consortium hosted by Nota is comprised of Daejeon City, the project target area, and Naver System Co., Ltd., a joint participant. Through this contest, Nota and Naver System Co., Ltd. will receive 1.5 billion won in government funding for one year, and a total of 375 million won in private investment by Nota and Naver System Co., Ltd. Therefore, a demonstration project will be carried out with a total scale of 1.875 billion won.
In this project, the consortium led by Nota plans to install AI safety crosswalks on a pilot basis at Research Complex Intersection and Jijok Elementary School Intersection, which are children protection zones, and Bongmyeong Intersection and Rivera Intersection, which have a high accident rate for elderly pedestrians. AI safety crosswalk is a smart city solution to create a safer pedestrian environment with AI technology, and its function is to prevent pedestrian accidents caused by right turns, jaywalking, and poor visibility.
The core technology of AI safety crosswalk is Nota’s Edge AI technology, which adds AI analysis function to traffic observation CCTV (S-CCTV) installed in Daejeon city to observe the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in real time and prevent dangerous situations from occurring. It predicts ~3 seconds in advance and warns drivers and pedestrians of danger in advance through various crosswalk assist devices (smart crosswalks).
Nota CEO Chae Myung-soo said, “We are very happy that Nota’s AI optimization technology can be used for the safety of citizens on the roads that citizens use every day.” He added, “Nota’s on-device AI technology will be used in various areas of future transportation, such as smart cities and autonomous driving. “It will play an important role.”
Meanwhile, Nota won the ‘Excellence in Engineering’ award at ‘Embedded Technology Convention USA 2022’, an embedded technology convention. We plan to actively pursue global partnerships and business expansion by participating in a number of global exhibitions, including the ITS World Congress 2022 to be held in the United States in September.
