TUNiB, a natural language processing-based artificial intelligence (AI) startup, has launched an open beta service for dog chatbots COCO and MAS.

Coco and Mars are AI chatbots featuring dog characters with different personalities. It is characterized by emotional connection, so you can engage in activities like real dogs, such as giving snacks and going for walks, and play various games such as N-line poetry.

To enable emotional communication beyond text understanding, Tunip learned a huge amount of Korean data, reaching 1.2TB (terabytes), with a self-developed language model. In addition, the user’s emotions were categorized in detail into 43 types and the intimacy level was set according to the conversation volume, implementing conversations appropriate for emotions and intimacy.

Another feature of this dog chatbot is ‘Sun Talk’. Most chatbots require the user to speak first, but Coco and Mars deliver messages and photos of daily life even without the user speaking. Participants in the closed beta test (CBT) that had been conducted previously also commented favorably, saying, “I was surprised that I received a message even though I didn’t talk to them,” and “I felt a sense of intimacy because it felt like we were sharing our daily lives.”

Coco and Mars, introduced by Tunip, are currently available to anyone by adding ‘DearMate Coco’ and ‘DearMate Mars’ as friends on the KakaoTalk channel.

Tunip CEO Park Gyu-byeong said, “We put a lot of effort into implementing natural and emotional conversations in line with the dog character that people are familiar with,” and added, “We will focus on improving the conversation skills of Coco and Mars in the future, while also improving the communication skills of other personas.” “We will also introduce chatbots one after another.”

Tunip is a natural language processing technology company that attracted attention by attracting initial investment from Naver D2SF and others. Its strength lies in implementing chatbots with various personas, and in August, it launched ‘Blueney’, an English chatbot with a travel theme, and is receiving meaningful responses from overseas. B2B discussions are also actively underway by releasing 11 natural language processing APIs, including N-line, safety check, and de-identification.
