Kakao announced that it would transform the response control tower, which was composed of executives and heads of each department and was in operation immediately after the Pangyo SK C&C data center fire that occurred on the 15th, into an ‘Emergency Response Committee’. The chairperson is Hong Eun-taek, head of the Kakao Community Center, and managers from the headquarters and major subsidiaries participate.

The Emergency Response Committee is comprised of three subcommittees, including the cause investigation subcommittee, the disaster response subcommittee, and the compensation measures subcommittee. The cause investigation subcommittee will determine the exact facts, including the cause of this data center fire, power supply delay, and recovery process. Based on this, the disaster response subcommittee is responsible for preparing intensive measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring and implementing them after consulting with external experts.

In addition, the Compensation Measures Subcommittee establishes a compensation policy for all stakeholders, including users and partners who have experienced damage due to this failure. We plan to set up a channel to report damage suffered next week and begin accepting damage reports. The plan is to discuss the target and scope of compensation based on the reported details.

Hong Eun-taek, head of the Kakao Community Center, said, “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this incident, and we are doing our best to normalize the current service.” He added, “We take the concerns of the relevant authorities more seriously than ever and are sincere in their investigations and requests. “We plan to cooperate fully, prepare strong measures to prevent recurrence, and at the same time prepare a compensation policy for those affected by this accident.”

Meanwhile, immediately after the fire broke out, Kakao began recovery processing based on duplicated data and systems in distributed data centers and is sequentially restoring KakaoTalk message receiving and sending functions starting at 1:31 a.m. As of 17:00 on the 16th, services such as sending and receiving KakaoTalk messages, excluding file transfers, Daum, KakaoT Taxi, Kakao Navi, and Kakao Webtoon are available. Detailed recovery status is always available through the KakaoTalk top banner and each service. It is being announced.
