Kakao Entertainment announced that five webtoons and web novels that share the worldview of the webtoon ‘Love Alarm (hereinafter referred to as Good Alarm)’ have been serialized through Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon since the 8th.

‘Good Alarm’, a popular webtoon with over 6 billion global views, is also produced as a Netflix original drama, and a live-action romantic entertainment show in collaboration with Kakao Entertainment and Wave, and is a super intellectual property (IP) that is continuously expanding its format. The launch of a webtoon and web novel featuring the ‘Good Alarm’ universe is attracting attention.

The webtoon ‘Love Alarm’ is the latest work by author Cheon Gye-young, who has recorded numerous hit works such as ‘Unplugged Boy’ and ‘Audition’ since her published comics days. It depicts the growth and love story of the main characters Jojo, Seonoh, and Hyeyoung, set in a world where there is a ‘Like Alarm’ app that sounds an alarm when someone you like is within a 10m radius.

‘Good Alarm’ drew enthusiastic responses both at home and abroad, as befits trustworthy writer Cheon Gye-young, with its original world view, sensuous directing, and detailed portrayal of the characters’ psychology being captivating. Her original work, the webtoon ‘Good Alarm’, gained sensational popularity, with over 600 million views in Korea, over 100 million views in Piccoma in Japan, and over 5.6 billion views in China. Furthermore, Seasons 1 and 2 of Netflix’s original drama ‘Love Alarm’ starring Kim So-hyun and Song Kang were aired around the world and received positive response, and Season 1 was also ranked as the 8th most loved work on Korean Netflix in 2019.

This time, writer Cheon Gye-young and five other writers from People & Story Publishing have joined forces to produce a webtoon and web novel that share the worldview of ‘Good Alarm’. The works of the ‘Good Alarm’ universe, created with the imagination of different writers, are expected to provide fresh fun by unfolding in various genres such as fantasy, classics, and thriller. The five works, including the web novels ‘Zinnia Scandal’, ‘Crying Crying’, webtoons ‘Don’t Make Me Cry’, ‘Be Kind to Your Neighbors’, and ‘Under the Green Light’, were released through Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon on the evening of the 8th.

‘Under the Green Light’, a classic romance in which a relationship that had to be separated due to war meets in the present through the ‘Good Alarm’ app, and ‘Yes’, a thriller in which people check each other’s signals using the ‘Good Alarm’ app in a world where zombies have appeared. ‘Be kind to your neighbors’, a sweet and bitter contract that requires each other not to ring each other’s ‘Good Alarm’ app, entertainment story ‘Zinnia Scandal’, etc. Through relationships and stories developed by characters other than the original protagonists of ‘Good Alarm’ Jo Jo, Seon-oh, and Hye-young. The worldview has become more interesting and expanded.

Writer Cheon Gye-young said, “I came to think of the ‘Like Alarm’ universe as a gift for readers who love ‘Love Alarm.’ “This is a project that started from ‘What would it be like if Good Alarm’s worldview was applied to various genres?’ and ‘What if the Good Alarm app worked on other writers’ works?’” he said. “I hope that the expanded world view of Good Alam will reach many readers as an interesting story,” he said.

Meanwhile, this universe’s works are expected to double the fun of watching along with the live-action webtoon entertainment show ‘Clap! Clap! Clap!’, which is scheduled to be released for the first time on Wavve on the 9th. ‘Clap! Clap! Clap!’, which was directed, planned and produced by Kakao Entertainment’s CP Kim Min-jong, brings the ‘Like Alarm’ worldview to reality and depicts a love story between eight men and women competing for hearts on the ‘Like Alarm’ app. It is a survival entertainment show. This is a refreshing case where the webtoon IP, which was often expanded into dramas, movies, games, etc., was expanded into entertainment. Both the Good Alarm app developed by the production team over several months and the survival program that appeared as a webtoon episode boasted a 100% synchronization rate and attracted high interest. I’m dragging.
