Kakao Brain announced that it has so far completed joint research agreements with a total of 9 university hospitals for research on ultra-large AI models in the medical imaging field.

While research and development of a huge AI model in the healthcare industry has begun in earnest, the plan is to speed up the development of medical imaging services using AI technology.

During the next two years of joint research, the partner university hospitals will provide clinical field experience and medical advice, and Kakao Brain plans to develop an AI service that generates draft medical image interpretation statements to help doctors improve the efficiency of their interpretation work.

Accordingly, it is expected that joint research with leading university hospitals will accelerate the development of medical imaging services using ultra-large AI technology.

The university hospitals that signed a joint research agreement are ▲Chungnam National University Hospital, ▲Chungbuk National University Hospital, ▲Ewha Medical Center (Seoul, Mokdong Hospital), ▲Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center, ▲Soonchunhyang Medical Center (Cheonan, Gumi, Seoul Hospital), and ▲Ajou University Hospital.

Based on this collaboration, Kakao Brain will focus on customer-centered research and development and plan to release a research AI web service that generates draft interpretation of chest X-ray (CXR) medical images in the first half of next year. In the future, along with the development of commercialization models, we plan to expand the scope of research and development of medical image reading assistance services using ultra-large AI models.

Kim Il-du, CEO of Kakao Brain, said, “Based on the world’s largest scale of cooperation, we will further accelerate the research and development of medical image reading assistance services using ultra-large AI technology,” and added, “By joining forces with leading university hospitals, we will expand the global healthcare market.” “We will lead the innovation in medical imaging services.”
