Kakao announced on the 14th (Wednesday) that it would conduct online copyright training for emoticon creators and prospective creators.
Kakao has prepared online copyright education to help creators strengthen their awareness of various copyright and trademark-related cases that can occur in the digital content creation environment. Any aspiring creator who dreams of becoming an emoticon artist, including those currently active in the Kakao Emoticon Store with products, can participate.
This training will be conducted by Jaewoo Kwak, an attorney at Gwangjang Law Firm, who is in charge of auditing the Korea Copyright Law Society. In addition to explaining the basic concepts of copyright and trademark rights, we plan to provide various copyright-related education necessary for creating emoticons, including cases of copyright and trademark infringement and how to legally use copyright and trademarks.
The training will be broadcast live from 7 p.m. on the 14th through Kakao TV’s ‘Kakao Emoticon’ channel. A link to the live broadcast will be sent to Kakao Emoticon Studio subscribers before the training, and they can also participate in the training through the banner located in the Kakao Emoticon Store. To encourage creator participation, Kakao also provides a one-month Emoticon Plus voucher to all online live participants.
Kang Gil-ju, head of the Kakao item partnership division, said, “As the emoticon ecosystem continues to grow, we are conducting regular training to strengthen creators’ copyright awareness,” adding, “This is an opportunity to increase creators’ understanding of copyright and prevent infringement and disputes.” “We hope that this will be possible, and we will continue to strive to respect and protect the rights of creators.”
Meanwhile, this training is the second regular copyright training following 2020. Unlike last year, where only emoticon creators could participate, this year’s event is characterized by the fact that any prospective creator interested in emoticons can participate in the training. Kakao plans to continue providing regular copyright-related education to creators.
