‘Hibo’, a startup specializing in mid- to short-range lidar, signed a contract with KT Group to supply lidar to be used in AI virtual fences that prevent industrial accidents in factory environments.

‘KT AI Virtual Fence’ is a serious disaster prevention solution at industrial sites that prevents accidents by automatically stopping equipment and issuing warnings when a person is detected within a dangerous area. Currently, it is being installed at Gwangju Global Motors, Kia Autoland, etc., and its usage is gradually expanding.

Hibo is a company that specializes in researching and developing mid- to short-range wide-field lidar. Through this contract, we plan to supply LiDAR, one of the core technologies of KT AI virtual fence. The supplied product ‘iLidar-TKFT’ recognizes the scene in 3D and can check whether a person exists in an industrial site without collecting personal information.

In addition, Hivo is continuing its cooperative relationship with KT Group by developing a ‘universal AMR PoC’ that eliminates blind spots in industrial sites by applying ‘iLidar-TKFT’-based ultra-wide-angle lidar.

A Hybo official said, “We are currently in the process of continuing to observe market reactions, obtain feedback, and build references,” and added, “We will accelerate our global expansion by participating in the 2023 CES.”

Meanwhile, Hibo is a technology-based startup founded within the research lab of Pohang University of Science and Technology. Certified for its excellent technology, it received the ‘3D Lidar Sensor – Technology Innovation Award’ from Money Today’s ‘2022 8th Korea Leading Company Awards’, ‘G-Star Award Encouragement Award’ from Gyeongbuk Creative Economy Innovation Center, and ‘2022 Robo World’ from Robo World. Awards’.

Subsequently, it was selected for the 2022 Ministry of SMEs and Startups – Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Promotion Package support project and is receiving support from the KT collaboration program of the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center, the host organization.
