EYL Co., Ltd. (CEO Jeong Jeong-seok), a global cyber security solution specialist, announced on the 17th that it has recently succeeded in developing a high-performance cryptographic chip that integrates a quantum random number generator (QRNG) and cryptographic functions in a single chip.

Quantum random number generator is a core technology for generating encryption keys used in encryption. It is a technology that prevents encryption key prediction by generating pure random numbers that are unpredictable and have no patterns.

EIL has succeeded in implementing a technology that generates random, unbiased, unpredictable, high-quality random numbers using irregularities occurring in quantum phenomena in a miniaturized chip. We have launched QCC (Quantum Crypto Chip), a crypto chip that secures the highest level of security by combining quantum random number generation technology with cryptography functions in ASIC.

QCC improves the performance of the existing QRNG and implements cryptographic acceleration technology that can process various encryption algorithms, HSM and eFlash technology that can safely store and use encryption keys, etc. on a single chip, providing higher security than existing encryption chips.

In addition, we developed and applied a side-channel attack defense technology that hacks the encryption key from the outside by incorporating random phenomena generated from QRNG into the circuit and analyzing power consumption. Equipped with an ARM Cortex-M4 processor, fast encryption processing is possible.

Jeong Jeong-seok, CEO of EIL, said, “QCC is a core chip that can be applied to all areas of IoT, including autonomous driving and drones, where security is especially important in the future.” He added, “It is also price competitive, so we expect its applications to expand, and this is an opportunity for quantum technology to become common. “We expect to prepare,” he said.

Last year, EIL developed a secret speech device that encrypts voice with quantum random numbers through the ICT New Deal project to build and operate a pilot quantum cryptography communication infrastructure. It was implemented to prevent eavesdropping with smartphones without a dedicated terminal, and was successfully applied to KT’s quantum cryptography communication network, supplying it to the Navy and local governments.

In the second half of this year, the company plans to manufacture the device into a business card-sized device and commercialize it for the general public using 5G and LTE, regardless of carrier. As part of the ICT New Deal project, a wireless section encryption device that encrypts national defense drone images and control signals is scheduled to be developed and supplied, and QCC will be applied for the first time.

Meanwhile, EIL was selected for the Startup Leap Package Support Project of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ Startup Promotion Agency in 2020 and is receiving specialized customized support, including commercialization support and mentoring, from the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center, the host organization.
