Kakao announced on this day that it received a certification plaque for inclusion in the DJSI World Index at the ‘2021 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) Awards Ceremony’ held at Grand Hyatt Seoul on the 10th.
This is the first time that Kakao has been included in the DJSI World Index, and it was also newly included in the ‘DJSI Asia Pacific Index’ and ‘DJSI Korea Index’ at the same time. In the interactive media, service & home entertainment industry, which includes major online service companies, Kakao is the only domestic company newly included in all three indices.
DJSI is a sustainability evaluation and investment index that comprehensively considers not only a company’s economic performance but also its performance in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) aspects and is used to compare companies’ sustainable management levels and as a standard for responsible investment.
It was jointly developed by S&P Dow Jones Indices, a global financial information provider, and S&P Global Switzerland SA, a global sustainability management evaluation agency.
This year’s DJSI World Index evaluated the top 2,544 global companies based on floating market capitalization. The interactive media, service & home entertainment industry, which includes major online service companies, had 56 companies subject to evaluation, of which 5 companies, including Kakao, were included in the World Index.
Bae Jae-hyeon, CIO of Kakao, who attended the awards ceremony, said, “This year was the year to start Kakao’s ESG management,” and added, “We will continue to actively carry out Kakao’s own ESG activities.”
Meanwhile, in order to promote active ESG activities, Kakao established an ESG Committee under the Board of Directors in January of this year and published the ESG report ‘2020 Kakao’s Promise and Responsibility’ in May, which contains goals and achievements in environmental, social, and governance aspects. It has been done.
