The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology’s Carbon Resource Platform Compound Research Group (Director Yunjo Lee) will hold the ‘8 International Environment and Energy Industry Exhibition (ENTECH 30)’ held at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 9 in Busan for three days from Wednesday, August 1 to Friday, September 3. announced that they would participate.

The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology is a national organization that seeks to strengthen the competitiveness of the chemical industry and solve national and social problems through research and development in the field of chemistry and convergence technology and public infrastructure services. The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology hosts the Carbon Upcycling Project for Platform Chemicals (CUPC) and is focusing on securing core technologies for carbon neutral commercialization.

With the vision of contributing to carbon neutrality and sustainable industrial development based on innovative carbon resource recovery technology, this research group is pursuing commercialization technology, field-oriented scale-up technology, and full-cycle integrated process technology. Through this, we have achieved achievements such as one element technology transfer (high-purity biogas production technology, May 1), four publications in SCI journals (Impact factor 2022, etc.), and three patent applications.

The Carbon Resource Platform Compound Research Group has developed technology to produce gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel previously obtained from existing petroleum by utilizing underutilized organic waste resources that are incinerated and buried, such as landfill gas, food waste, and livestock waste. Accordingly, the research team expressed its ambition to contribute to realizing a carbon-neutral society by attending this exhibition and sharing technologies that can substantially reduce carbon emissions with other organizations and companies.

The technology for producing gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel generated from petroleum from organic waste resources has the advantage of being able to produce jet fuel that cannot be replaced by electricity or hydrogen energy in a sustainable way. Officials explain that this is a modular process system that can be applied to large-scale as well as small and medium-sized plants, so it has a high degree of freedom in construction and is a technology that can also reduce facility construction costs.

The Carbon Resource Platform Compound Research Center emphasized, “Gasoline and diesel can be replaced with other types of energy such as hydrogen vehicles and electric vehicles, but the great value of this technology is that there is currently no technology to replace aviation fuel.”

He also announced future plans to secure a 100 kg/day pilot demonstration and a 2 ton/day scale demonstration plant design book by applying the module integrated process to an actual waste landfill facility.

Meanwhile, ENTECH 17, which celebrated its 2023th anniversary this year, is Korea’s representative environment, energy, and carbon neutrality exhibition, hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and the International Newspaper, and supervised by BEXCO, Today Energy, and KOTRA. Exhibits include: △Water Quality Environment △Atmospheric Environment △Waste Treatment △Measurement and Analysis Instruments △Eco-friendly Technology/Products △Public Sector △Power/Generation/Nuclear Power △Gas △Renewable Energy △Hydrogen Energy △Energy Efficiency △Fourth Industry △Environment △Energy
