The ‘2023 International Safety and Health Exhibition’, hosted by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency and organized by the Korea Safety Protection Equipment Association, opened at KINTEX in Ilsan on Monday, July 7.
As the face-to-face marketing of companies, which had shrunk due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is expected to be revitalized, this exhibition will be held in larger scale than the previous year, with about 220 companies and 800 booths.
This exhibition, which will be held in Halls 6 and 4 of KINTEX Exhibition Hall 2 for 7 days until Thursday the 8th, will add smart safety using the latest IT technologies such as IoT, big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing to existing exhibition items. By doing so, visitors can take a look at the latest safety and health technologies and products being used in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, construction, transportation, energy and medical, all in one place.
This exhibition, held as part of the ‘2023 Occupational Safety and Health Month’, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and boasts the longest history in the domestic occupational safety and health field.
Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jeong-sik, who attended the 3 Occupational Safety and Health Day ceremony on the 2023rd, said, “Preventing people from dying or getting injured while working is the most basic and core task to move toward a society where the value of labor is properly respected. Accordingly, the government prepared and is promoting a roadmap to reduce serious accidents last year with the goal of creating a safe and healthy workplace and a happy Republic of Korea,” he said.
He continued, “The core of this roadmap is a self-discipline prevention system based on participation and cooperation, rather than regulation and punishment, which dramatically changes the policy paradigm,” adding, “A safe and healthy workplace requires not only the efforts of the government and companies. This becomes possible only when workers’ responsibility and active participation are added. In this respect, he emphasized, “Risk assessment, which examines and improves risk factors together with labor and management, who are most familiar with the risks in the field, can be said to be the core of the self-discipline prevention system.”
Since last May, the government has completely reformed the system so that workers and employers can participate with responsibility as subjects of risk assessment. Accordingly, Minister Lee Jeong-sik requested special attention and efforts from workers and employers so that the self-discipline prevention system centered on risk assessment can take root in the field, and expressed the government’s intention to provide full support to ensure that there are no difficulties in utilizing the new risk assessment in the field. revealed. In addition, Minister Lee mentioned that along with legal and institutional efforts, it is very important to spread a safety culture in which all citizens, including labor and management, regard safety as a natural value.
Minister Lee Jeong-sik said, “The lives and safety of workers are the most precious values that cannot be exchanged for anything. Accordingly, we hope that the managers of each company will establish the awareness that safety is no longer a cost but an investment for the future, and establish a safety-centered management culture.” He added, “The practice of safety is no longer someone else’s job, but my own. Because of work and responsibility, workers must protect the safety of not only themselves but also their co-workers. “We must always follow the safety rules and actively participate in safety activities such as risk assessments with a sense of responsibility,” he said.
In addition, “The government will also do its best to ensure that safety culture is established, centered on safety culture implementation teams in 39 regions across the country. In addition, at the official opening ceremony of the exhibition, a ceremony to commemorate Occupational Safety and Health Day was held, and heads of related organizations and officials graced the event. Government awards were also given for the dedication and efforts to create a safe and healthy workplace. Minister Lee said, “This July will be the most meaningful month in the history of industrial safety. “This is the first year that the Industrial Safety and Health Emphasis Week, which has been in operation for the past 7 years, has been upgraded to Occupational Safety and Health Month in order to use it as an opportunity to solidify the momentum for spreading a nationwide safety culture,” he said. “Starting with today’s ceremony, we will hold seminars related to industrial safety for a week,” he said. Various events, including the International Safety and Health Exhibition, will be held. “Starting next week, various events will be held at industrial sites across the country on the theme of win-win cooperation between large, medium, and small businesses and the spread of risk assessment,” he said.
