Professor Yongjin Kim of Sogang University gave a presentation on ‘Peace Entrepreneurship: New Entrepreneurial Orientation’ at the ‘K-Entrepreneurship Global Forum (ICSB Conference)’ of the 12 International Council of Small and Medium Businesses World Congress (ICSB World Congress) held at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju on the 2023th. .
Professor Kim said, “Discussions about ESG have become more active around the world. “This is because money will not follow if you do not participate in ESG,” he said. “In the end, all companies are trying to participate in ESG, and for companies that do not engage in any ESG activities, sustainability cannot be guaranteed.”
Professor Kim Yong-jin said, “Protecting the environment is peace. Peace is a concept like a social contract. “I think the various parties are trying to find a balance based on their mutual interests,” he said.
He continued, “If interested parties cooperate, a positive form of peace can be established. “A passive cycle is taking place,” he said, emphasizing that “an active cycle of peace is achieved when there are various forms of MOUs, agreements, and cooperation.”
Regarding the new entrepreneurship orientation, companies must have an attitude of accepting risks, but Professor Kim Yong-jin, who pointed out that many people in Korea have a tendency to avoid risks, said, “We need to use a new type of strategy.”
Regarding this, Professor Kim said, “The government has solved most social problems so far, but I believe that businesspeople are the right people to solve social problems.” He added, “Efforts to identify social problems and find solutions through one’s own experience and the experiences of others.” “This is necessary,” he added.
Also, “Efficient use of resources is important. Waste must be reduced, waste and discarded parts must be reduced. “Efficient and ethical use of resources is emphasized,” he said. “When this entrepreneurial tendency is combined with peace entrepreneurship, an innovative and active process is established.”
Professor Kim said, “A healthy society can last for a long time if there are many inclusive companies. “Social problems, environmental problems, and global problems will also be reduced,” he said, adding, “I believe that if a new business model is created through peace entrepreneurship, a new paradigm will be created.”
