Korea Institute of Materials Science (President Jeong-hwan Lee) announced that it will participate in the 6th International Maritime and Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX 7), which will be held at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 9 in Busan from Wednesday, June 1 to Friday, June 13.

In order to strengthen the competitiveness of Korea’s materials, parts, and equipment-related industries, the Korea Institute of Materials and Materials provides research and development and dissemination of results in the fields of metals, powders, ceramics, nano surfaces, composite materials, material digital platforms, and material safety evaluation, as well as technical support and testing for companies. It is a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT that comprehensively carries out evaluation work. The institute emphasized that it is conducting technology transfer so that companies can actively utilize about 250 cutting-edge source materials technologies, and as a hub organization for the material and materials industry, it is doing its best to research for Korea to become a materials powerhouse.

At this exhibition, the Korea Institute of Materials Science will present ▲high-strength lightweight steel material manufacturing and processing technology, ▲lightweight aluminum material with excellent shock absorption, ▲highly reactive aluminum powder technology for solid propellants, ▲piezoelectric single-crystal actuator technology for high-speed light wave surfaces, and ▲multifunctionality ( A total of 6 technologies, including (heat dissipation/bullet proof, etc.) aluminum composite material technology and ▲database for local production of aerospace materials, will be exhibited and the work status and achievements of the Space and Defense Materials Research Laboratory will be introduced. In addition to national defense technology, we plan to publicize the technology held by the Korea Institute of Materials Science and Technology.

An official from Korea Research Institute of Materials said, “This institute manufactures SiC powder, develops ultra-high concentration SiC slurry, synthesizes SiC-based precursors, and produces next-generation gas turbine materials, ultra-high temperature and heat-resistant ceramic materials, supersonic weapon system materials, hypersonic passenger aircraft materials, next-generation aircraft engine materials, and rockets. “We are actively researching defense material technologies such as nozzle materials,” he said. “We decided to participate in MADEX 2023 to inform the public of the results of research at the Korea Institute of Materials Science and Technology and to promote marketing for defense industry companies. “We will also strengthen our network with researchers, companies, and related organizations so that we can contribute to the development of Korea’s defense materials technology,” he explained the background to his participation in the exhibition.

He then expressed his ambition, saying, “Korea Institute of Materials has formed a research team (Space Defense Materials Research Lab) specializing in the field of defense materials, and will support the leading, organic, and integrated development of defense materials and contribute to the Korean defense industry.”
