Timken is a global company that manufactures industrial bearings and related products. Since its establishment in 1899, it has been supplying high-performance bearings, reducers, lubricants and related products to various industrial fields. In particular, we develop and manufacture products used in various fields such as automobiles, aerospace, steel, construction, new and renewable energy, and food and beverage. This exhibition will showcase three products: polymer bearings, solid lubrication bearings, and IP69K-rated sealing bearings.
Polymer bearings are an integrated product that integrates the inner ring, outer ring, balls, seals, and grease of existing bearings. They increase stability in the food production process and reduce maintenance time by eliminating the need for lubrication. This product has been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and FDA and proven to be safe.
In the case of solid lubrication bearings, they are products that solidify the lubrication of existing bearings. They are applied to equipment that is not suitable for polymer bearings, and are intended to improve food safety and reduce maintenance time.
Finally, IP69K rated sealed bearings are introduced. The IP rating indicates dust and water resistance, and is composed of 69K, which indicates that dust cannot penetrate, and 6K, which indicates that high temperature and high pressure water cannot penetrate even if sprayed. These grades are suitable for frequent cleaning to ensure a hygienic environment. Regarding this, Timken explained, “Considering that the latest mobile devices have an IP9 rating, it will be easy to understand how much performance the IP68K rating has,” and added, “We will use our company to diagnose products suitable for the equipment and environment.” “It is essential for engineers to visit and inspect the site,” he added.
He continued, “Our products play an important role as a solution that extends the life of bearings and improves productivity by improving environmental difficulties, food safety, and maintenance inefficiencies that occur during the food and beverage production process.”
Timken also shared the background behind the development of these bearings. An official said, “The food and beverage production process takes place in harsh environments such as high temperature, low temperature, and high humidity, and there is a risk of bearings due to direct contact with food materials. Accordingly, most facilities in the field use stainless steel bearing products. However, stainless steel can rust depending on the environment, which can pose a risk to food safety.”
In addition, “Most bearing failures are caused by problems with lubrication. The frequency and amount of lubrication have a very important effect on the lifespan of a bearing, and improper lubrication can shorten its lifespan. However, excessive lubrication also does not have a positive effect. “Inspecting numerous bearings in a facility is a time-consuming and expensive task,” he said. In order to improve this uncomfortable situation, a new product was developed through research and development.
