Mercedes-Benz participated in ‘CES 1’ held in Las Vegas, USA for a total of 5 days from January 8th (Thursday) to 4th (Sunday, local time) and unveiled the pure electric concept car ‘VISION EQXX’. did.
Vision EQXX is the result of an extensive collaborative technology project between Mercedes-Benz over the past 18 months aimed at taking driving range and energy efficiency to a whole new level.
To this end, top researchers at the Mercedes-Benz R&D Center and Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrain (HPP) F1 engineers, as well as talented individuals from startups, partners, and institutions around the world, have joined the project to collaborate and compete at the same time. We have applied many of the latest technologies and ideas that can be implemented in the near future to Vision EQXX.
As a result, the Vision EQXX was born as ‘the most efficient car in Mercedes-Benz history’ by applying innovative and intelligent technologies across all areas, from ultra-efficient electric drive systems, lightweight engineering, sustainable materials, and advanced software systems. Based on digital simulations reflecting actual traffic conditions, Vision EQXX achieved a driving range of more than 1 km on a single charge and an energy efficiency of more than 1,000 km per kWh.

F1 experts at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) located in Brixworth, England, and the Mercedes-Benz R&D team worked closely together to redesign the Vision EQXX’s electric drive system. The ultra-efficient electric drive system, which produces an output of 150kW, transfers 95% of the energy from the battery directly to the wheels. This is a much higher figure compared to 30% for the most efficient internal combustion engine drive system.
Instead of simply increasing the size of the battery, Mercedes-Benz developed an entirely new battery pack with increased energy density. A high-capacity battery pack of approximately 400 kWh with an energy density close to 100 Wh/l is mounted on the Vision EQXX’s body. It has a similar energy capacity to the battery of the large electric sedan The New EQS, but the battery pack is only half the size and weighs 30% lighter.
Vision EQXX provides additional energy by installing 117 solar cells on the roof. Completed in collaboration with Fraunhofer, Europe’s largest solar energy research institute, the system not only increases driving range by 25 km, but also delivers energy to climate control, lighting, infotainment systems and other devices.
The Vision EQXX exterior is based on Mercedes-Benz’s design philosophy of ‘Sensual Purity’ and achieves a perfect harmony of beauty and efficiency. The Vision EQXX’s body lines continue smoothly like waves, and the glossy black trim on the edges adds a focal point and has the effect of improving aerodynamics at the same time. By utilizing advanced digital modeling techniques, the development process period was shortened and an air resistance coefficient of 0.17 Cd was achieved, which is more improved than the New EQS, which is the lowest among current mass-produced models.

Vision EQXX’s interior is luxuriously realized using sustainable lightweight materials and organic design details. In particular, biotechnology materials developed by startup companies have been applied everywhere. The door handles are made of AMsilk’s Biosteel fiber, and MyloTM, a vegan leather made from mushrooms, and Deserttex® made from cacti are applied to the interior seats. The floor mats are also made from natural bamboo, a fast-growing and recyclable material that minimizes environmental impact while maintaining comfort and style.
Mercedes-Benz is the first to apply a game engine to the Vision EQXX, providing users with a higher level of digital luxury. Vision EQXX’s user interface responds immediately to the driver’s needs with excellent real-time graphics and delivers various external information in real time.
The 47.5-inch fully integrated display runs wide between both A-pillars, creating a spectacular view, and the thin and light mini LED display with 8K (7680×660 pixels) resolution connects the driver and passengers with the outside world. The zero-layer function, which was also applied to the new EQS, has been developed more intelligently to provide intuitive and personalized suggestions to the driver, and also allows fellow passengers to directly use the dedicated zoom function and entertainment functions.
The Star-cloud avatar installed in the Vision EQXX not only responds immediately to the driver’s requests, but also manages various information collected and delivers it to the driver when necessary, helping to drive comfortably. The ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant was reborn to be more emotional and expressive through collaboration with Sonantic’s voice synthesis experts. A machine learning system was applied to give the device a unique personality, allowing for more natural conversations.
Meanwhile, ‘CES’, the world’s largest IT exhibition, is an exhibition where you can understand the trends of the global home appliance industry at a glance. Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it is held every January in Las Vegas, USA. AVING News, which has covered CES for 1 consecutive years, has reported CES news around the world every year since 17, and has been selected as the ‘BEST OF CES’, which selects the best innovative products and technologies, and the ‘BEST OF’, which selects domestic innovative companies. ‘MADE IN KOREA’ was held. In addition, CES on-site issues were vividly conveyed through ‘AVING LIVE’.
