    ‘BIO KOREA 2023’, the largest bio-health industry event in Korea co-hosted by Chungcheongbuk-do and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, kicked off on the 2023th (Wednesday) at COEX in Seoul.

    This year’s Bio Korea, with the theme of ‘Hyper-connected era, leap to new growth innovative technology’, consists of various programs such as conferences, exhibitions, business forums, and investment fairs.

    At the conference, over 120 biohealth experts from 13 countries will participate in 21 sessions on 11 topics, including regenerative medicine, vaccines, and gene therapy, and presentations and discussions will be held to share the latest technologies across the industry.

    The exhibition operates thematic exhibition halls such as the consignment manufacturing (CMO) and contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) zones, clinical trial organization (CRO) zones, advanced regenerative medicine hall, and national hall, as well as Fuji Film and Wuxi APP Tec. ), Lap Corp, and IQVIA, and other global companies, as well as domestic companies such as Hanmi Pharmaceutical, Daewoong Pharmaceutical, Yuhan Corporation, and ABR Bio.

    Kim Young-hwan, Governor of North Chungcheong Province, who attended the opening ceremony on the 10th, said, “When I was serving as Minister of Science and Technology in the Kim Dae-jung administration, I remember the predictions of futurist Alvin Toffler, who said that the way forward for Korea lies in bioinformatics. In addition, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong recently mentioned that bio is the direction our economy and Samsung will take after semiconductors,” he began his welcome speech.

    He continued, “Recently, we are changing the brand of Chungcheongbuk-do to ‘Standing at the Center of the Republic of Korea.’ “At the center of this is bio,” he said, adding, “In particular, human resources capable of researching, R&D, producing, and developing bio are the most critical center.”

    Governor Kim Young-hwan said, “To foster such talent, we are focusing on creating the ‘Bio KAIST Campus’ and AI Bio High School in Chungcheongbuk-do. In addition, we will create a 100 billion won fund and 10 billion angel fund and focus our resources on fostering bio startups.”

    In particular, Governor Kim said, “The future of Korea depends on bio,” and expressed his ambition, “As a foundation for this, we will develop Chungcheongbuk-do into a mecca for the biohealth industry, including new drugs and medical devices, and become a test bed for reform in Korea.”

    Lastly, Governor Kim Young-hwan said, “BIO KOREA 2023 will be used as a venue for domestic companies to share cutting-edge technologies and become a bridgehead for advancing into the global market, and furthermore, it will become the starting point of a new renaissance in which Korean bio companies lead global technological innovation. “It is,” he said.
