Kim Hyo-jung, team leader at Jeonglim Architecture, gave a presentation on ‘BIPV, the architect’s choice’ at the ‘13 Solar Power Market Insight (PVMI 2023)’ urban/building solar power policy and market trend session held at EXCO (CEO Lee Sang-gil) in Daegu on the 2023th. did.

Team Leader Kim introduced the roadmap for mandatory zero-energy buildings and said, “Zero-energy building (ZEB) certification will be mandatory in stages, starting with public sector buildings in 2020 and including the private sector in 2025.”

Team Leader Kim said, “There were many unresolved problems in the process of designing and constructing a BIPV-specific building at Jeonglim Architecture. “We had to solve the issue of the thickness of the finishing material,” he said. “At the time, the thickness of the exterior wall, excluding concrete, was found to be 355mm, and we thought about reducing it for over two months. In conclusion, we shortened it to 200mm and constructed it.”

Team Leader Kim said, “There are many things to consider when designing BIPV,” and added, “Jeonglim Architecture has created its own guidelines.” He continued, “As zero-energy buildings are mandated, BIPV is also indirectly mandated,” adding, “There are currently institutional limitations, and those developing modules also need to consider the details.”

Team leader Kim Hyo-jung said, “Finally, a zero-energy building cannot be realized with rooftop solar power alone. “In the end, we have to go to BIPV,” he said. “This is a step that requires consideration and research on BIPV design technology.”
