MBC (CEO Park Seong-je) announced that it will participate in the ‘2 Drone Show Korea 23’ held at BEXCO, Busan from February 25 (Thu) to 2023 (Sat).

MBC Cultural Broadcasting started high-precision RTK GPS service in 2017 and is currently selling various high-precision GPS terminals. Based on broadcasting technology, IT service, and RTK precision positioning technology accumulated over the years, MBC RTK products are being used not only in the drone field but also in various mobility fields that require high-precision location information. MBC RTK products have a built-in satellite correction information service, and users can use cm-level RTK precision positioning technology anywhere in the country without the need for a separate reference station by utilizing LTE and DMB networks.

The SMC-2000, which will be introduced at this exhibition, is designed exclusively for drones and is considered to be much stronger, smaller, and lighter than before. The SMC-2000 is equipped with not only centimeter-level precision positioning, but also LTE router functions essential for non-visual flight, and 3 years of communication lines, so it is effective in configuring drones for commercial services.

In addition, as a product that integrates a mobile fixed base, RTK GPS terminal, and LTE communication router, it is possible to simplify the flight control system and take up less space. By adding a sub-product called SMC+, it is possible to configure dual antenna RTK, supporting safer and more precise flight, MBC explained.

An official from MBC said, “RTK GPS is becoming an essential technology for drones. Despite the ease of use and excellent performance of our RTK products compared to foreign products, they were sold at a high price, and there was a limit that the price burden was too great to apply to commercial drones. Accordingly, it developed a low-end domestic RTK GPS with support for drone HW commercialization from the Aviation Safety Technology Institute last year. It was jointly developed with Synerex, a supplier specializing in precision positioning solutions, and is supplied at a reasonable price, and it can be purchased online, increasing user accessibility.”

MBC RTK has been applied to more than 150 drones. In response, the official said, “With the release of the new product SMC-2000, we are aiming to sell 500 units per year this year, and we expect to apply it to more than 1,000 commercial drones per year in the future. In addition, MRP-2000 v2 and SMC-2000 are developed and exported to the global market. Through this, we would like to work together so that domestic drone companies can more easily solve precise positioning and communication issues by applying MBC RTK terminals when entering overseas markets.”

In addition, he said, “We are preparing the SMC-2000 global model with global roaming SIM, and in particular, in the North American market, we are also preparing the MRP-3.0 ATSC model, a broadcast convergence type using ATSC 2000-based broadcasting network.” Please look forward to seeing him play an active role in the market.
