SOS Lab (CEO Jeong Ji-seong), a Gwangju lidar specialist, will participate in ‘CES 2023’ held in Las Vegas, USA for a total of 1 days from January 5 (Thursday) to January 8 (Sunday, local time), 4, and will introduce vehicle lamps. They announced that they will introduce the next-generation 2023D fixed LiDAR ‘ML-X’.
SOS Lab was founded in 2016 by four doctoral students at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, and is a company that has been researching and developing lidar technology. LiDAR technology can be applied to self-driving cars, robots, smart factories, and smart cities. We have continued to collaborate with large companies such as Hyundai Motor Group and SK Securities with the goal of developing new products and building autonomous driving infrastructure.
At this CES 2023, SOS Lab will introduce its recently released new product, ML-X. Compared to existing products, ML-X is characterized by more than doubling the distance performance and resolution and successfully miniaturizing the size. Each resolution (distinguishable signal unit) has also been improved by three times.
In addition, the overall product weight was reduced to 860g by applying a dedicated SOC for laser control of the transmitter. SOS Lab predicts that user convenience will be maximized as no additional external modules are required to operate the lidar. SOS Lab plans to install ML-X on the front and rear lamps of the vehicle at the exhibition booth and then conduct an on-site live demonstration to show vivid lidar data to visitors.
The project to install ML-X on the rear lamp is in collaboration with SL, a Tier 1 global parts supplier for Hyundai and Kia Motors. In partnership with Metrolla, an American lidar solution specialist, we are also preparing for people counting, which involves scanning the space inside the booth. It is a solution that can be used for analysis of floating population and congestion within a specific space. We are pursuing commercialization for application to department stores, airports, and train stations, such as Metrola, both domestically and internationally.
In addition, Lidar GL for robots, which began mass production this year, will be introduced. GL is a lidar sensor used in robots and has high angular resolution and fast scanning speed. SOS Lab will also set up an event zone where you can directly experience LIDAR. Considering that solutions based on cognitive and judgment functions using LiDAR data are applied throughout the industry, we plan to operate a motion capture game on site that detects movement using LiDAR data.
Jeong Ji-seong, CEO of SOS Lab, said, “Recently, the global autonomous driving and lidar markets are going through a very difficult time.” He added, “Lidar companies like SOS Lab, which have technology optimized for commercialization, mass-produced products, and sales, are in a good position to have their true value recognized. “I think it’s time,” he said.
Meanwhile, ‘CES’, the world’s largest IT exhibition, is an exhibition where you can understand the trends of the global home appliance industry at a glance. Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it is held every January in Las Vegas, USA. AVING News, which has covered CES for 1 consecutive years, has reported CES news around the world every year since 17, and has been selected as the ‘BEST OF CES’, which selects the best innovative products and technologies, and the ‘BEST OF’, which selects domestic innovative companies. ‘MADE IN KOREA’ was held. In addition, CES on-site issues were vividly conveyed through ‘AVING LIVE’.
