Korean Air participated in the ‘Drone Show Korea 2’ held at BEXCO, Busan from February 23rd (Thursday) to 25th (Saturday).
Korean Air participated on the largest scale among all companies and organizations participating in this exhibition, presenting its vision for Korea’s unmanned aerial vehicle business through advanced technologies and products in the unmanned aerial field, including mid-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles, vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, hybrid drones, and inspection drones.
The mid-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle, developed by Korean Air and beginning mass production this year, is a strategic weapon system equipped with high-performance sensors that monitors and reconnaissance key targets in real time at a height above the aircraft flight altitude. This is evaluated as the most competitive asset that only four countries in the world currently possess.

The vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicle, which has both the vertical takeoff and landing function of a helicopter and the high-speed flight capability of a fixed wing, is the successor model to the existing division-level unmanned aerial vehicle developed and mass-produced by Korean Air. In addition to being used for military reconnaissance purposes in the country’s narrow mountainous terrain, it is also expected to be used for civil and public purposes such as forest fire detection and fish detection.
In addition, the hybrid drone is a platform independently developed by Korean Air to complement the short flight time of existing battery drones. The hybrid propulsion system allows long-term endurance of more than 2 hours and operation at speeds of more than 70 km per hour.
The inspection drone developed by Korean Air for the first time in the world and applying swarm technology can inspect the exterior of the aircraft fuselage while flying up to four units at the same time, and data can be shared in real time to check the results without time and location restrictions.

In addition, Korean Air will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the unmanned aerial vehicle business with the Korea Institute of Materials Science and Technology and Korea Fiber at this exhibition. The plan is to secure global competitiveness in the unmanned aerial vehicle field through collaboration with these specialized research institutes and lead the domestic unmanned aerial vehicle market by accumulating cutting-edge technologies.
Korean Air said, “As a leading aerospace company representing the Republic of Korea and a leading player in the ‘K Defense Industry,’ which has continued to develop recently, we plan to actively contribute to the development of future cutting-edge weapon systems and strengthening national defense capabilities through continuous investment and research and development in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and drones.” He said.
