Youngpoong Electronics Co., Ltd. (CEO Ha-yeol Ryu) participated in the ‘Drone Show Korea 2’ held at BEXCO, Busan from February 23rd (Thursday) to 25th (Saturday).
Youngpoong Electronics independently researches, develops and produces cutting-edge devices in various fields, including power control devices, avionics equipment, integrated navigation devices, launcher turrets and actuators, missile wing control devices, and AI-based video fusion systems that are applied to all weapons systems of the Republic of Korea military. there is.
Based on the technological prowess it has accumulated over the past 37 years, it was selected as a ‘technological innovation company in the drone field’ among the top 100 defense industry innovation companies, and possesses specialized flight control technology, navigation device technology, and in-house airframe design capabilities. The company explains that it is the only supplier of integrated spare instruments and power distribution devices for aircraft in Korea through leading local development, and is also committed to developing future cutting-edge weapon system technologies such as inertial and complex navigation systems equipped with third-generation inertial sensors. . Recently, the company continues to provide innovative solutions, including the thrust vectoring control system that protects the orbit of the Korean launch vehicle Nuriho.
As such, we have won orders for various civil and military-related projects based on technology accumulated through prior research on drone flight control and navigation. In addition, we have secured flight control technology that can be applied not only to multicopter-type drones but also to other types of drones such as tilt-rotor, and continue to perform research services on flight control software design technology and the convergence of drones and other technologies. It also received an excellence award in the attack drone category at the 2022 Dronebot Challenge competition hosted by the Army Education Command.
The ‘GANNET’ introduced this time is a self-destruct drone that was developed for attack and surveillance and reconnaissance missions. The drone is equipped with a high-performance EO/IR camera and includes Geo-pointing/Location software, enabling acquisition and tracking of coordinates for the target. In addition, the official explained that it is easy to carry out attack missions as it can be equipped with ammunition (0.6kg/1.1kg) and the user can command an explosion for the corresponding ammunition. In addition, ‘GANNET’ is designed considering the weight and installation location of the mission payload, ensuring a flight time of up to 35 minutes (No Payload) or 24 minutes (1.1 kg ammunition loaded).

Youngpoong Electronics selected the flight control computer that it developed and applied in-house as the biggest advantage of the drone. By installing software developed through dynamic modeling and repetitive simulation of drones, flight control performance is increased to ensure agile responsiveness, and solutions are provided to ensure that drones are robust to disturbances such as magnetic fields and wind. to provide.
An official from Youngpoong Electronics said, “Drones are in the spotlight as a ‘game changer’ that will lead modern warfare. “The demand for drones in the military is increasing, and the value of reconnaissance and attack drones is bound to increase,” he said. “Accordingly, our company has been conducting research and development for many years on the hardware and software of the flight control computer, which can be considered the most core equipment of drones. and has focused on research on flight control and navigation. “Based on these core technologies and many years of know-how, we have developed a drone that is convenient for our military to operate and is optimized for reconnaissance and attack missions,” he explained.
He continued, “We received a lot of attention with our first participation in the Drone Show Korea in 2022, and we participated in 2023 to continue the exhibition effect through continuous exhibition and demonstration of our products. In particular, it is related to satellite and inertial navigation signal processing, external wind direction/wind speed change response SW, and magnetic field disturbance response SW implementation capabilities, flight control system, aircraft structural design, and thrust system design that have been developed and developed over the past five years. “We want to introduce technology and promote our company’s capabilities and specialized advantages in providing ground control and mission equipment in a timely manner in line with civil and military needs,” he added.

Future plans were also announced. An official said, “With the development of drones, development related to anti-drones that interfere with them is actively taking place around the world, and this will play a role in neutralizing drone operations. A representative example is the satellite navigation system ( “Drone guns that cause GPS disruption are expected to make normal flight of drones difficult and destroy the military’s drone combat system,” he said.
Accordingly, Youngpoong Electronics will continue to conduct research on robust, reliable, and optimized flight control and navigation software that can overcome disturbance factors applied to drones in consideration of these battlefield situations in the future and commercialize them. Furthermore, the plan is to provide a solution that meets all of the military’s needs.
