Narma Co., Ltd. (CEO Kwon Ki-jeong) participated in the ‘Drone Show Korea 2’ held at BEXCO, Busan from February 23rd (Thursday) to 25th (Saturday).

Narma, the first research institute of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, developed an electric dual tiltrotor drone optimized for delivery. This tiltrotor drone has two wings like a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle, so it is fast, and the rotors attached to the ends of both wings enable vertical takeoff and landing and stationary flight, making it suitable for delivery.

A Narma official said, “Existing multicopter drones are capable of vertical takeoff and landing and stationary flight, but are slow when flying forward and have low energy efficiency. In comparison, our tiltrotor drone is capable of high-speed forward flight through the lift generated from the fixed wings and the tilting of the rotor during forward flight, and has high flight efficiency, making it possible to fly over long distances under the same conditions.” Therefore, we carried out many demonstration projects (Market Demonstration Support Project (Daejeon TP), Regulatory Sandbox Project (KIAST), and Drone Demonstration City Construction Project (KIAST)) and proved the performance, safety, and efficiency of delivery drones.” .

At this Drone Show Korea, Denuri, a shuttle delivery system using a kiosk, and AF200FC model using hydrogen fuel cells were exhibited. Through this, we introduced a fuel cell-based tiltrotor drone that can be conveniently operated through a kiosk and can fly at high speeds and long distances, exploring the utility of tiltrotor drones in a wider range of fields.

The AF200, which is capable of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), has a maximum speed of 120 km/h, a wider operating area than multicopter drones, and real-time control using cameras.

An official said, “We developed the world’s first electric dual tiltrotor using tiltrotor technology, a representative technology of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute,” and added, “‘Dunuri’, a shuttle delivery system using a kiosk, is a simple and convenient system that performs automatic flight with a few touches. It is a system that maximizes pilot convenience. In the case of drone operation using an existing manual remote controller, there are disadvantages such as difficulty in flying outside of line of sight and considerable fatigue due to flight, and while drone pilots fly one delivery drone at a time, the Narma drone flies multiple drones at once, making it economical. “It is a groundbreaking system that can increase the use of drones and expand the supply of drones,” he said.

Based on this technology, we plan to launch a full-scale drone delivery service in cooperation with convenience store chains in Korea. In addition, we proposed Narma’s drone delivery solution to several overseas countries, including South Africa, Croatia, Ethiopia, and the Philippines, and achieved our first export performance by signing SKD contracts with partners in South Africa and Croatia. We have obtained overseas certification to advance into the US and Europe, and through this, we aim to actively expand our business overseas this year.

Not settling for this, Narma is developing a hydrogen fuel cell drone with an increased flight range. An official said, “As the demand for drones capable of flying for long distances and long periods of time has been steadily raised by various organizations and fields such as domestic and foreign companies, government authorities, and public institutions, we have accepted this demand and will be able to fly for up to 2025 hours and payload (Max) by 2. “We aim to develop a more improved tiltrotor drone weighing 20kg.”
