LG Innotek announced on the 22nd that it will unveil its ‘high-magnification optical continuous zoom camera module’ for the first time at ‘CES 2023’, the world’s largest home appliance and IT exhibition. This is an ultra-small component that allows the telephoto camera function, which is mainly applied to professional cameras such as DSLR or mirrorless, to be used in smartphones.

LG Innotek’s high-magnification optical continuous zoom module, when applied to smart devices, enables optical zoom shooting in the high magnification range of 4 to 9 times. Zoom methods are largely divided into optical zoom and digital zoom. Optical zoom is effective in maintaining image quality because it enlarges the subject by directly moving the lens.

In addition, since it is possible to freely switch between 4 and 9 times the range with a single module for shooting, smartphone manufacturers can reduce the number of modules and thus secure more space inside the device. This is an advantageous factor in improving battery efficiency.

Recently, LG Innotek was recognized for its technology by receiving the ‘CES Innovation Award (CES 2023 Innovation Awards)’ through its optical continuous zoom module. This product contains LG Innotek’s proprietary optical technology accumulated over nearly 20 years. We independently developed a zoom actuator (a component that moves the lens to change the focal length or focus) to achieve clear and clear image quality in all sections. OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), a new design method, minimizes blur caused by shaking and improves clarity.

Based on this, LG Innotek plans to solidify its position as the global number one in the smartphone camera module market. According to market research firm TSR, global demand for optical zoom camera modules is expected to rapidly increase from 19.7 million units in 2021 to 90.5 million units in 2025.

Currently, LG Innotek is also in the process of optimizing software dedicated to optical continuous zoom to be installed on Qualcomm’s new premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform. The two companies plan to speed up joint promotions for global smartphone manufacturers, starting with product unveiling at CES 2023.

LG Innotek President Jeong Cheol-dong said, “Smartphone cameras will evolve to increase the performance of optical zoom, focusing on premium phones,” and “As a leading smartphone camera module company, we provide innovative products that provide pleasant experiences and impressions to customers. “We will continue to innovate customer value by taking one step ahead of others.”

Meanwhile, ‘CES’, the world’s largest IT exhibition, is an exhibition where you can understand the trends of the global home appliance industry at a glance. Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it is held every January in Las Vegas, USA. AVING News, which has covered CES for 1 consecutive years, has reported CES news around the world every year since 17, and has been selected as the ‘BEST OF CES’, which selects the best innovative products and technologies, and the ‘BEST OF’, which selects domestic innovative companies. ‘MADE IN KOREA’ was held. In addition, CES on-site issues were vividly conveyed through ‘AVING LIVE’.
