Nanotech startup Somalytics will launch the smart eye patch SomaSleep at ‘CES 2023’, which will be held in Las Vegas, USA for a total of 4 days from January 5 (Thursday) to January 8 (Sunday, local time), 2023. ) is presented.
Somasleep collects important data that will help improve sleep by tracking the eye movements of sleeping users. It analyzes the REM sleep state, in which the eyes move quickly, and synthesizes the quality, stage, and disturbances of sleep. This provides feedback that takes into account the user’s health and sleeping habits.
Stress, injury and illness, medications, and alcoholic beverages can interfere with REM sleep and rapid eye movement, and concussions, for example, increase the likelihood of sleep problems and daytime fatigue. Somasleep analyzes and shares not only the REM sleep state but also eye movements when the user is awake, improving the user’s understanding of changes in sleeping habits and side effects, helping them easily consult with their doctor.
Health data can be collected for 8 hours on a single full charge and viewed through the SomaSleep mobile app. Low-power technology prevents overheating, and data collected can be transmitted to a fitness tracker through SDK.
SomaCap, a carbon nanotube paper composite (CPC) capacitive sensor responsible for SomaSleep’s eye movement tracking, is used in home appliances, AR/VR, IoT, etc. that require precise proximity detection, gesture control, touch and fluid monitoring. This is a technology developed by Somalitics with health care and transportation technology in mind.

“To address the sleep disorders that affect hundreds of millions of people, a critical understanding of sleep quality is essential,” said Barbara Barclay, CEO of Somalitics. The REM sleep state is very important for memory and learning, and snoring, medicines, chronic diseases of the legs and back, antidepressants, concussions, mental illness, etc. can interfere with this,” he said. “Existing sleep centers do not collect data on REM sleep. Unlike passive analysis, the lightweight and convenient SomaSleep eye patch allows users to easily and directly view all sleep stages without fear of invasion of privacy. “We expect this product to transform home health care.”
Somalytics plans to release SomaSleep on the consumer market in December next year at a price of $199.
